Playground update

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed playground designs. Please see our new playground Q&A section below where we answered some of your top questions. We are pleased to announce our vendor choice is Flagship and share equipment photos below! The renderings reflect Concord student and parent feedback that requested more swings, traditional monkey bars, chin up bars, and buddy benches! The Kindergarten class raised more than $10,000 during February's Read-a-thon, and earned the prize of choosing the colors for the new playground. Their fun choice was teal, blue, and limon green. Finally, due to the overwhelming generosity of our Concord community, we surpassed our fundraising goals and were able to add additional equipment pieces. The playground committee has added a slide to the crab trap, and filled in the open space on both sides of the zipline. One side of the zipline you'll see a chill spinner, saddle spinner, and curva spinner. The other side of the zipline now has a geoplex climbing wall, wobble pod, and curved balance beam. Thank you for your dedication to this amazing playground project to ensure it serves our Concord kids and surrounding community for the next generation!

Playground questions? We've got answers!

Why two play areas?

  • A split design allows us to put in more equipment pieces that are higher and elevated

  • Staff requested two play areas for ease of supervision and reduced congestion due to more access points for students

Why wood chips?

  • EPS is paying for ADA accessible components of wood chips and two poured-in-place entry points as part of the costs of the underlayment and surface materials

Will there be more playground shading?

  • The two large trees closest to the playground will remain for natural shade

  • The large climbing structure will have roof pieces

  • No large sunshades are being considered because of ongoing maintenance costs

How is the playground funded?

  • Playground equipment is 100% funded by our generous Concord community with $35,000 left to raise to build our playground

  • We are pursing grants, but if Concord is awarded a grant the money doesn't get paid out until after the playground is built

Concerned about younger kids and older kids playing together?

  • Recess time is by grade level only; ages are commingled only outside of school hours

  • While the playground has a split design, kids will have access to the entire playground during recess.
